How Much Do Divorces Cost in Nebraska?
For Nebraska Divorce cases, our fees are different than most other law firms. We charge a flat monthly rate for divorces. Prior to hiring us to represent you, you will know how much your Nebraska divorce case will cost each month. You won’t be surprised by large, unexpected invoices at the end of the month.
Why Do You Charge On A Flat Rate?
There are several reasons why we have turned to a flat rate model for divorce fees.
- Creates a less adversarial relationship between divorce attorney and client. In the past with hourly billing, some clients complained for being charged for each contact with their divorce attorney or for travel time to a distant court house. A flat fee erases the possibility of this. Your divorce fee doesn’t change and you know when it is due.
- A flat monthly fee gives the Nebraska divorce attorney an incentive to be cost effective and time efficient. There is no incentive to gain large billable hours by doing needless work. It allows your divorce attorney to get your case done quicker.
- There is no sticker shock. You won’t receive a bill not knowing what the amount owed is. You will know prior to hiring your divorce attorney how much it will cost each month.
- It allows your attorney to charge less in divorce fees. We don’t have to hire staff in order to handle billing matters.
How Much Does a Nebraska Divorce Attorney Cost?
We have three different divorce fee packages to choose from. We do this so you can better budget for your case. If you don’t like the flat monthly divorce fee model, you can still choose our hourly fee package.
Divorce Fee Package #1:
- $599 up-front payment for the first month;
- $499 monthly payment for each month onward.
Divorce Fee Package #2:
- $999 up-front payment for the first month;
- $399 monthly payment for each month onward.
Divorce Fee Package #3:
- $1,499 up-front payment for the first month;
- $299 monthly payment for each month onward.
Divorce Fee Package #4:
- Typical hourly fee at the rate of $200.00 per hour;
- Required Retainer Fee of $2,500.00 due prior to representation.
Here is an example showing the total costs of each divorce fee package depending upon length of your divorce case:
Case Length (in months) | Package #1 | Package #2 | Package #3 |
3 | $1,597.00 | $1,797.00 | $2,097.00 |
6 | $3,094.00 | $2,994.00 | $2,994.00 |
9 | $4,591.00 | $4,191/00 | $3,891.00 |
12 | $6,088.00 | $5,388.00 | $4,788.00 |
An attorney charging the current market rate of $200/hour would end up charging around $2,400.00 for a typical uncontested divorce* that takes about 12 hours of work and about 3 months. With Caldwell Law, you would be paying significantly less than that.
* We charge even less for uncontested divorce cases.
What About The Divorce Costs?
If you are the plaintiff, the one who files the case, you will be responsible for the Nebraska divorce court filing fee, which is currently $157.00. Additionally, you would be responsible for publication costs, court reporter fees, expert witness fees, mediation fees, parenting course fees. You will not be charged for mileage costs, copy, postage, or fax costs, or process service costs conducted by a Nebraska County Sheriff.
